WordPress welcomes cmi5! Thanks to GrassBlade xAPI Companion v4.0

cmi5 in wordpress

Today we’re super excited to announce our very first step into the next gen of AICC, called cmi5. It is a well-defined specification built for LMSes to replace AICC, and probably SCORM too.

Bringing cmi5 to WordPress, while some of the most popular LMSes are still behind.

What is cmi5?

cmi5 is a set of rules providing all the capabilities of AICC using the power of xAPI. It is a specification for LMSs started by an AICC working group and completed under the stewardship of ADL (Advanced Distributed Learning Initiative).

You can say AICC (or SCORM) + xAPI = cmi5

With GrassBlade xAPI Companion v4.0, you will be able to upload cmi5 packages exported from almost any authoring tool that supports it and track the activities done by users on WordPress. All the tracking data will go to your connected learning record store.

FAQs

Why is it in the BETA stage?

cmi5 is comparatively new, and not yet widely adopted. This means there can be unknown bugs in the authoring tools, as well as LMSes.

cmi5 also brings some advanced security concepts that might conflict with current UI/UX.

We’re calling it a BETA version as a precautionary measure so users will avoid using it directly on their production websites. We highly recommend users, first test it in the staging environment and learn how it is functioning with your set of plugins.

Note: Only cmi5 support is in BETA, everyone can update to this version.

We did extensive testing with all the authoring tools that support cmi5, here is a list:

  1. Articulate Storyline 360 (Try Demo)
  2. Articulate Rise 360 (Try Demo)
  3. iSpring 10 (Try Demo)

Is there any change in procedure?

There is no change in the procedure to use the cmi5 content on WordPress. From uploading to tracking all the process is the same as you’re already using.

Which LMS plugins does it work with?

An LMS plugin is not a requirement, however, the integration with all four supported LMS plugins works with cmi5:

  1. LearnDash LMS
  2. WP Courseware LMS
  3. LearnPress LMS
  4. LifterLMS

Is Completion Recorded/Reported?

Completion tracking, as well as response tracking, works well with cmi5. This means your lesson/topic/quiz will be automatically marked completed when the user completes the added cmi5 content.

What else is in this version?

To give you better control over the design, we added global color options to match the table styles to your theme. Now you can set the color of:

  • User Reports table
  • Your Result table
and, other tables generated by GrassBlade

Set it from WordPress Dashboard > GrassBlade > GrassBlade Settings > Table Styles.
